    Hi Gem,
Free web hosting generally comes in these 2 models:
    1) Zero ads – but require you to register or transfer domain name with them for at least 1 year. Price of new registration or transfer of domain name can cost anywhere from $15 to $35 depending on which “free” web hosting provider you go with.
If you’re smart, you can actually get a domain name for less than $10 with a reputable domain registrar instead of paying that “free” web host.
Actually, the up front domain registration or transfer fee covers the basic web hosting features, it’s just that they make it sound as if the hosting plan is free for you except for that domain registration or transfer.
In other words, whether you get a new domain name or transfer your existing domain name to the free web host, you have to pay $15 to $35 before you’re entitled to their so-called “free website hosting”.
A good example of such “free” service is:

    2) With ads – no such thing as minimal or maximal. All such web hosts are the same. But it’s truly a free hosting for you since you do not need to register or transfer domain name or whatever. You pay zero fees upon signup. It also fits your needs as it’s nothing fancy and easy to use. But they’ll do their best to send you mailers to persuade you to upgrade. I guarantee.
    Below’s a good example:
    => http://tinyurl.com/free-website-hosting
Having said that, there’s no free lunch. There’s always a catch for the so-called free web hosting. You want no ads, money talks. You want truly zero-fee hosting, ads will appear on all your web pages. Simple as that.
    Here’s my suggestion though.
If you’re creating website for personal use without the aim of making money, then free web hosting is what you should go with since reliability and quality are not your prime concern. Even though you may upgrade later on, the price to pay for the upgrade far exceeds the service they offer you, comparing to the market nowadays.
Since you said you’re building a static website for a small business, you should pick the right web host right out of the gate, instead of going for free hosting first. The poor overall hosting and customer service will probably affect your business.
Learn why free web hosting is unreliable:

You should go with paid hosting instead. Some few good ones are cheap at the price. You get more but you pay far lesser than you were to upgrade in those free hosting service. Ask any expert marketers, they’ll tell you the same thing I’m telling you now.
But come to think of it, you may just want to test drive how a free web hosting works before you go for a reliable paid host. If that’s what you plan, then I’m all for it.
    Hope that helps. Cheers ;)

    Hi,
I would recommend “IX WebHosting” because it’s very cheap and reliable. Their support service is awesome. This company offers site building tools, application vault, web mail, antivirus, Php, MysQL and hosts unlimited websites in one plan. Don’t go for free web hosting. They are not reliable. If your current internet provider is Earthlink, AOL, SBC Global and others which provide a homepage; you can easily FTP your own webpage designs as a new homepage. And using a redirection service such as mydomain.com or the forwarding of a parked domain name at godaddy.com, you can easily “mask” the homepage URL with a proper domain name. So in a sense, you have a working ecommerce website disguised as a homepage while still paying your normal monthly Internet access and hosting fee.
    Good luck!

Be careful with free hosting services, they try to upgrade you on a ton of features which end up costing more than a regular paid hosting package.
I run several sites and used to be with Globat, but left them because their tech and billing support did not meet my needs.
I moved my business to Webair, and boy, they have been great. Blazing fast servers, same day support, easy billing (including paypal) and you can host multiple domains on one account. MySQL and PHP is nice and fast, plus they are leaders in the amount of bandwidth and storage space you get.
I strongly recommend them. Here is a link to their site:http://hits.webair.com/cgi-bin/redir?pd_…

    100 GB data transfer
    PHP and MySQL
    Website Builder
    no advertising
Never had any problems at all, they will help you with servers etc. control panel is easy to use.
I pay £10 a year for the domain name, so that is the yearly cost of my site. Free hosting rocks :)
    Hope that helps
